The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a combined $33.5 million to build new truck parking facilities in Texas and Louisiana as project sponsors find ways around a lack of dedicated funding pools for such projects. A truck travel plaza in Caldwell County, Texas, was awarded $23 million from DOT's Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program, a competitive grant program used to fund freight and passenger transportation projects. The Cross River Rail project aimed to alleviate congestion in Brisbane's metro transport system and improve transportation for the growing population. However, the project faced numerous obstacles due to limited space — the site is incredibly confined and congested, the construction sequencing was complex with the need for precision, efficiency and safety. The Kenworth truck assembly plant in Chillicothe, Ohio, recently held its second annual Kenworth Truck Parade in downtown Chillicothe. This year, the parade paid tribute to Kenworth's 100th anniversary. The 2023 Kenworth Truck Parade featured more than 50 new, classic and customized Kenworth trucks, including models built in the 1920's and 1930's, a 1976 Bicentennial W900 VIT-200, two Liberty Edition Kenworths — a K100 Cabover and W900 Conventional, a 1984 W900B from Australia, as well as Kenworth's 100th anniversary Signature Edition T680 and Limited Edition W900 trucks. PACCAR and Toyota Motor North America Inc. announced an expansion of their joint efforts to develop and produce zero emissions, hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks powered by Toyota's next-generation hydrogen fuel cell modules. The expanded agreement supports ongoing development and commercialized zero-emission versions of the Kenworth T680 and Peterbilt 579 models featuring Toyota's hydrogen fuel cell powertrain kit, with initial customer deliveries planned for 2024. Volvo Receives Record Order For Up to 1,000 Electric Trucks →
Volvo Trucks has signed a letter of intent to sell 1,000 electric trucks between now and 2030 to Holcim, one of the world's largest building solution providers. The deal is the largest commercial order to date for Volvo electric trucks, and the first 130 trucks will be delivered in 2023 and 2024. Holcim is a global provider of building solutions, with headquarters in Switzerland. Now, the company and its contractors have, with Volvo Trucks, agreed to plan for the deployment of 1,000 electric Volvo trucks across Holcim's operations in Europe between now and 2030.
