Felling Trailers Inc. conducted its 10th annual online auction of an FT-3 drop deck utility trailer to benefit a non-profit organization: Eagle's Healing Nest. A winning bid of $7,752.00 won the auction that ended at noon on Aug. 27. The bid winner was Joe Welch of Caledonia, Minn. Valew Quality Truck Bodies Achieves Baffling System Patent →
Valew Quality Truck Bodies, the long-time manufacturer of Valew Water Trucks, recently was awarded a patent for its new baffling system and the production on the new system was introduced this year on both its 2,000-gal. and 4,000-gal. trucks. Over decades of building water trucks, Roger Hayes realized that there were costly problems with traditional baffle designs. According to Hayes, CEO of Valew Quality Truck Bodies, "traditional materials used for baffles are pricey and made of steel — which often rust, and most manufacturers don't weld their baffles in place which causes them to fall." VIDEO: Volvo Trucks to Begin Customer Testing of Fuel Cell Trucks in 2025 →
Volvo Trucks are running tests of fuel cell electric trucks that only emit water vapor and have an operational range comparable to diesel trucks, up to 1,000 km. A second pilot phase is to follow in a few years' time and will see customer tests on public roads. The testing of fuel cell electric trucks in commercial traffic will start in 2025 with selected customers in northern Europe, followed by additional trucks in more countries over the coming years. Volvo Trucks North America announced the culmination of the Volvo LIGHTS project — a three-year project that brought together 14 public and private partners to design and implement a blueprint for the robust support ecosystem necessary to deploy battery-electric trucks and equipment at scale. During the project, which ran from 2019 to 2022 in California's South Coast Air Basin, Volvo Trucks deployed its first Class 8 pilot Volvo VNR Electric trucks to fleet operators to collect real-world operating data and customer feedback ahead of announcing its commercial model in December 2020. A Kenworth T680 Next Generation will transport the 2022 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree from the National Forests in North Carolina to Washington, D.C., with stops en route to a full slate of community celebrations. This year's U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree — a 78-ft. tall Red Spruce — is scheduled to be harvested Nov. 2 from the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina. At the heart of the entry-level driver training rule, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is ensuring that first-time commercial drivers are regulated. The rule, which was kicked down the road for several years, went into effect early in 2022. Though the agency meant well, some say it is putting a heavy burden on an industry that's already hamstrung by a limited worker pool. To be certified, drivers must complete their training from a school or carrier listed on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry before taking their commercial driver's license (CDL) test.
