Often referred to as “cherry picker” trucks, bucket trucks are vehicles with an extendable boom mounted to the bed or roof that are used to provide temporary access to inaccessible areas. Often used by construction and maintenance workers, they also are deployed by firefighters for emergency access and phone and cable companies to reach high wires. Designed to lift limited weight limits — they typically have a lifting capacity of 350 to 1,500 pounds — they can usually be set up and run by one person.
When Terex Utilities introduced the industry's first all-electric bucket truck in 2022 and the HyPower SmartPTO by Viatec in 2019, this represented more than just leading-edge technology.
